This thread is a vote to elect the UCSL Magazine Editor 2008-2010 seasons.
Below are the responses to the survey sent out-
Mike (PIT)
Would you consider yourself to be experienced at writing and editing?
Yes, I graduated from college with a communications degree, wrote as a sports editor for a local newspaper and was a Sports Information Intern for 3 years at Colgate University.
Why would you be a good candidate for this position? Are you familiar with the commitment required?
Yes, my writing skills far exceed most since my most skilled profession is that of a sportswriter. I realize the committment it will need but will be able to take the time and do it correctly.
What is your goal in becoming Magazine Editor?
To provide the league with a good source of information, covering key trades, recent results and any other major happenings.
What aspects of this position would you expect to enjoy the most?
I get to write about sports, how much more enjoyable can you get than that?
What difficulties do you think you could face in this position and how are you prepared to handle them?
Just making sure it stays updated with current information and hopefully I can get some additional stories from folks around the league when necessary.
What are your hopes for the UCSL Magazine in the future?
That it keeps coming out monthly and maintains an accurate and unbiased source for news and updates.
If you were to win the job, how often would you be willing and able to release a magazine? (Monthly, Quarterly, One per half, etc)
Monthly is perfect for me, gives me time to come up with a few stories, look for stories from others and properly edit everything.
Would you be able to remain unbiased, and accept articles from any owner, as long as they are of good quality?
I feel in my time here I have shown that I am very unbiased and just want to have fun and keep things in the best interest of everyone involved here.
What more would you like to say in support of yourself or any of the other candidates?
Hoagie (NYM)
Would you consider yourself to be experienced at writing and editing?
Yes...I've been a part of my high school newspaper staff for 3 years now, yearbook for 2, and have been a part of journalism for the last 6 years (7th grade-now). I'm an editor for my school newspaper, which has won numerous awards and is considered one of the top HS papers in the country (and better than most college ones), so I better be pretty damn good at editing.
Why would you be a good candidate for this position? Are you familiar with the commitment required?
I basically just said why...I'm a good writer and editor. I am willing to spend time to make things good.
What is your goal in becoming Magazine Editor?
I want to make it a lot like HHSL...lots of "10 best LF prospects" or "10 best ML SS's"...I want to make it worth reading.
What aspects of this position would you expect to enjoy the most?
Making decisions on who to rank higher...making jokes, etc.
What difficulties do you think you could face in this position and how are you prepared to handle them?
Well if I ranked somebody higher and people disagreed, they could disagree, but its not like its a big deal...
What are your hopes for the UCSL Magazine in the future?
Make it fun to read.
If you were to win the job, how often would you be willing and able to release a magazine? (Monthly, Quarterly, One per half, etc)
I could write something as often as once per week if needed, but more realistically once per every 2 weeks.
Would you be able to remain unbiased, and accept articles from any owner, as long as they are of good quality?
I would accept other articles fine. I think there should be some editorials as well as some unbiased stories. I don't think we should ridicule people, but we could question moves or praise owners for a job well done.
What more would you like to say in support of yourself or any of the other candidates?
Nothing I want to say hasn't been said already. I'm an editor, humor columnist and have a lot of free time.
I'd rather be the magazine editor than an agent just because with the magazine it's really my niche, but I wouldn't mind doing either. If people want me to be an agent, I'll take pride in that and accept the job. I really could do both without problems. I write fast and can do stuff in one sitting in about 10 minutes but make it still good quality. I'm good at writing and negotiating at the same time.
You may post your choice for UCSL Magazine editor from the following choices: Mike (PIT), and Hoagie (NYM).
If you'd prefer to vote anonymously, please PM me your choice.
Voting will be open until 4 PM ET on Monday.
