really don't think there is any reason to wait for Houston to accept. I will throw my veto out there and wait for the rest of them to flow in. Obvious reasons for veto, Mauer is top 3 catcher in league and HOU is getting nothing worth a top 3 anything in the league

I know we arent supposed to protest deals before the teams accept or the sponsers accept but with the deadline tonight im tossing out the 3rd veto same reason I vetoed, just wanted to give them a chance to re-work it to where HOU actually gets some talent back if he still decides to move Mauer.

im still wary of it but i said i would pass it as sponsor and let it face the league though it looks obvious this is all but shot down(though the Bailey trade was allowed to pass)

The Trade Committee will consist of the following teams:
BAL, SEA, TEX, TB, with ANA as the tiebreak.
The teams involved will have 24 hours to post their reasoning for the trade, after which time the voting commences.

OK here's my explanation:
NYM GET:
Joe Mauer-One of the best catchers in the game, no doubt. But look behind the numbers and he's a PFA that will require a huge paycheck come next year. Freddy Sanchez-A slick fielder with a decent average and obp but no pop.
HOU GETS:
Ace Young-Potential #2 starter, listed on the HHRecord Page as a top pitching prospect. Alan Taylor-Potential #3/4 starter, keeps the ball in play, which is important in HOU. Ted Johnson-Great 2B/OBP guy who can hit #2 in the lineup. Similar player IRL would be Nick Johnson. Matt Lecroy-Nothing more than a throw-in so HOU has a catcher for the rest of the year. Fred Knight-Great all-around hitter, .300/.351/.492 edits, with a good enough arm to catch and good enough fld% to play 1B. Is only 21, so training him at C is still a possibility. NYM #1 2009-It is going to be a low pick, but in the past, people have gotten huge quality out of picks late in the 1st round. Let's face it...not everyone is good at drafting in this league. HOU has drafted well in HHSL, and I trust he will do no worse with this pick. NYM #2 2009-See above, but with a lower quality obviously.
What I'm trying to say is this: while this trade will be league-changing (with the deal I would be a legitimate WS contender), it will not be league-hurting. This offer was a lot better than the one HOU got for Bailey (and a lot better than what else HOU was offered for Mauer), who is hitting .294/.354/.689 as opposed to Mauer's .340/.389/.499...and i know that Mauer is a much better fielder (and a .340 BA is sick, especially for a catcher), but Bailey almost has a .700 SLG. All things considered, a team who is looking to contend trading 4 solid prospects, plus 2 draft picks for an awesome catcher and a backup infielder from a team who isn't looking to contend for a few years is realistic. This in no way hurts the league and should not be vetoed.

First off, I have to agree with everything NYM has said. Second, it's nice to say I could of gotten something more but you know what? No one offered more than the Mets. I left my aim contact on the trade block for people to contact me on Sunday. We posted on Tuesday giving people 2 days to send me an email, pm or an IM. I received several emails with interest and responded to all. NYM still had the best package. I also talked to other teams who said they would love to have him but said they didn't want to pay the price. I was online for those days from 5 pst till 9 or 10pst. People had an opportunity but didn't do anything about it. So what does that tell you? I'm not going to get full value for him which was the main reason for the protest anyways. So instead of having one of the best catchers possibly ever I will have 4 very good players IMO for my future including 2 picks which will bring me something valuable IMO. Also, instead of keeping Mauer and having to resign him, I could risk the possibility of a team not liking his salary and or able to afford his salary. Instead, this trade helps lay the foundation of my franchise along with the two other trades which includes the controversial trade of Bailey which I guess my rear is still a lil sore from. So in closing, to protest and veto this trade because I didnt get enough for him is not only unreasonable, it's illogical and hypocritical considering TEX was "worked over" with what I got in return. People have had two days to send me something, anything of interest and have failed to do so. Thus, making the true fault on those owners who didn't make an attempt to obtain Mauer lowering his market value for all to benefit.

this is not the time for your two cents...you already had a chance to make your voice heard with your veto post...if you want to add options, edit it with whatever else you have to say.

I agree now is not the time, but Mauer being on the block and actively shopping him saying he will move are 2 different things. Mauer being on the block just says you are going to listen to offers. If you had said you were actively trying to move him I would have actually made an attempt. Because I vetoed the deal, I will not enter into any negotiations for Mauer until NYM's exhausts all options, but I if I knew he would have moved, and he would have moved this cheaply, I would have made an attempt.

I'm going to have to pass. I don't have time to write up something now, so I'll edit it in tomorrow.

I vote pass. NYM is giving up enough. This deal is not a league breaker and it's annoying how everyone is so protest happy lately.
