The PreSeason Predictions were tallied and averaged and placed on the league site today. The results, compared to the current league standings, yielded some surprises...and then, some of the standings don't seem to be surprising anyone.
Granted we are jsut into the season, here are some interesting points when looking at the current standings to the overall predictions:
*The AL West has shaped out exactly as predicted so far. Anaheim received the most first place votes in MLB. The ChiSox, Cubs and Dodgers are the other 3 teams predicted to finish 1st that are currently in 1st. Detroit, Montreal, Milwaukee and Colorado received the most last place votes in their respective divisions. All but the Expos are currently in 2nd place. Montreal, who received the biggest percentage of last place votes in any division, is in 1st. The Braves, who were predicted to finish 1st in the NL East, are in last place right now. Statistically, the NL East houses the tighest "predicted" race. Four teams predicted to finish in 4th place are currently in 4th. They are: Texas, the Mets, Pittsburgh and the Padres. Toronto and Cincy are the only other non-first place and non-AL west teams that sit in its predicted finish place. The Blue Jays are in 3rd while the Reds are in 5th.
Like I said, its early, but we'll keep an eye on the standings as the season moves on. Check backk in a few weeks for an update.
