When the Montreal Expos moved to Washington 1 year ago, never did they expect what would happen.
They won 105 games and the NL east, before losing in 5 games to St Louis in the division series.
But attendance was never where it should be. Especially around playoff time, when there seemed to be more interest in the Redskins than the Nationals.
Due to this, and the heavy lobbying in Montreal to have their team back, the Expos are moving back to Montreal. The move is effective immediately, and due to the short time Olympic Stadium was out of use, it is still in great shape and will be used immediately.
Montreal fans couldn't be happier about the move.
"Everyone talked about how we had nobody attending games, but look at how we were treated when Loria owned the team. First there was the strike, which lost fans of baseball everywhere, and then there was just the mistreating of Expos fans in general. With the teams that they were putting out there, how could they expect us to go see the games? Now with a good team, they will pack Stade Olympique every night!"
