i propose that we change the rule of resignings. if u resign a player before he hits the FA market u should be able to trade him before July 1st. it rally hinders teams trading chips and they really never hit FA just go an extention. just a thought

I agree to a certain extent but then again, u would be only resigning players to trade them. But then again, it would benefit the league more if we changed this rule.

i think it's a great idea to get rid of the automatic NTC for extension guys, but especially because that's just another thing we have to keep track of. we're not too good at that.

Yeah, but what player would sign a contract without a guarantee that a team wouldn't just turn right around and trade him? I know it's a hassle sometimes, but getting rid of it would totally take away from any realism there.

Then i think there should be some type of like ability to like waive the rule like have a committte or something that would say weather the player agrees to waive the NTC thing

Or just "buyout" the NTC. Have the team trading the player they resigned the yr before (if before July 1st) pay 500K. It might be worth it for some folks. But it would still be a penalty.

I think if a player has a NTC and is traded...the agent from the same league should set a fee to be paid for the player to waive the NTC....
example(and I dont know if said players have NTC's...just using names)
Johan Santana gets traded for Albert Pujols...
we'll say that both players have NTC's...then in this example NYM would set a fee for Pujols while I would set the fee for Santana...then the 2 teams involved would figure out who pays what...

We would have to put a cap on the fee though. Otherwise good idea.

One thing I don't like is that the teams involved in the trade decide the amount of the NTC waiving. I don't like that because the teams are agreeing on a trade so of course they will say you have to say we both pay 250K or 500K or a small amount. Maybe the League Pesidents, Agents or Commish should decide. Where would the "fee" go? to the team trading the player? or to a league bank where the money is split among all teams that did not provide money into the bank? Like say that 3 deals were done where the NTC was paid. NTC involved(just using these players for calibur of player) Santana- 3 MIL A-Rod- 2.5 MIL Pujols- 3 MIL Tony Armas Jr.- 1 MIL Keith Foulke- 1 MIL Chad Bradford- .5 MIL Total- 11 MIL 6 teams involved in the trades would leave 24 teams splitting 11 MIL. Each team would get 458,000, not alot of money but would pay for a minor league contract.

teams involved in the trade are not involved....if an agent traded a player with a NTC the other league agent would set the fee...
the money would go to the player for waiving the NTC, kinda like an incentive...
the "cap" would be 7.5 mil....also its would be a flat cap...it would be insane to cap out based on potential...thats the agents job...also in this instance the agent could look at the situation both teams are in...example...
we'll say I still have Cabrera, but he has a NTC. Lets say I have an offer from ANA to send him there...an agent would look at the situation and say..."Cabrera goes from no chance in the next 5 yrs of winning a WS to the best chance in the league" and probably set the fee around 4mil or so
so then the fee might be sightly lower then if the trade was reversed and I was getting Cabrera from ANA...in that instance Cabrera would probably need the max amount allowed to join the Reds....

oh I get what Jeff ment...
the teams would decide how much the fee is....they would decide what team paid it....

so the fee would just vanish?(like it wouldn't come off the contract?) Also would the team getting the player pay it or would the team sending the player pay it?

think of it as a bonus the player would get....basicly the NTC would be an incentive that would only get paid if the player was traded...
both teams involved in the trade would figure out who paid what...(1 trade could have the team getting Cabrera paying the entire fee, while another could have the teams splitting it up however they choose)

unless otherwise negotiated, the receiving team pays for the NTC fee.
in a deal, the trading team can agree to pay for it as a part of the trade, but as a default, the receiving team would.
