The Brewers send Jody Gerut to the Royals for OF Jay Payton (Contract paid for this season by KC).
It is a sad day to see Mr. Gerut move on, but we honored his request to give him an opportunity to start.
We welcom Mr. Payton and hope that he can provide the spark Jody has off our Bench.

Confirmed. Payton was asking to be traded to a team closer to a current contender than KC in his "walk year"and Stieb oblidged his request. G/L to Payton in his new surroundings. Stieb and the organization also welcome a younger bat in Gerut. Right now he still start as DH, but can also slide in nicely as a 4th OF. Stieb and Gerut are now in contract negotiations since he is a PFA.

Nope. Just the one who was riding my bench, wanting to start and won't resign with me without a starting OF spot. I posted him on my trade block and talked to 1/3 of the league about him, and no takers. So I got a guy who will be easier to resign and play off my bench.

I would have traded for him but you never asked me. Besides, the guy who you are playing over him is so vastly inferior to Gerut, Gerut should be starting. Tuttle is a typical fifth OFer and defensive replacement.

Yes...I should play a guy who's career AVG BEFORE this yr was .272 and K's more, over a Gold Glove caliber OF who hits for a higher AVG, gets on base just as much, has a stronger arm and can cover twice as much ground in all 3 OF spots.
OK. Let me get right on that.
Yes, a 5th OF and DEF replacement...Who will be a top lead-off hitter. Gerut is a solid player who will help KC, but I will stick with Tuttle, and his 300K salary over the next 2 seasons and will score a ton more runs then Gerut would in my OFF.
So why is Tuttle a 5th OF? I just want to hear your reasoning.

Yes That is complete nonsense. At most, Tuttle should be a platoon player and never playing against lefties. His projections are crap. While Gerut isn't a stud against lefties, his have enough power to make up for a lack of OBP. Gerut would be a fine, though not ideal, neither would Tuttle, lead off man. Gerut is a step slower than Tuttle, and besides you have given up 54 outs with caught stealings. When it comes down to it. Gerut projects as a .832 OPS vL (.685 for Tuttle) and .920 OPS vR (.758 for Tuttle) with the ability to play good defense in both corners and with Baldelli you already have someone would can playa great CF. You are giving up runs for some distorted notion that speed is all that is need for a leadoff hitter. Someone who has a OBP of .336 has no business hitting no higher than 8th on a NL team. Gerut is the superior player and wouldn't be all that expensive. Only a couple of million at most and any savings with Tuttle would be made up with increased performance from Gerut.

OPS is an overrated stat. I like guys that put the ball in play. With as bad as some of the DEF is in this league, I like his chances. Especially the MI that will be coming up in the near future. Almost 50% of the time, that is where he will hit it. And out of those times, 70% of those will be on the ground. In short, 35 of 100 balls he hits will go to the poor DEF up the middle. And when they boot the ball, I can have an extra 4-5 times he will reach base out of that 100...maybe more with his speed. That means 20 more times he will reach base. He strikes out less and puts it in play. With bad DEF and his speed, he will be fine. Plus with his range and DEF in my OF with Rocco and Thomas next season...try getting a 2B or 3B. Anything in play, they will have a chance at. In turn, my way of doing things has worked out nicely for me. In 2 yrs I went from a #8 pick, to top 3 in the league. I'll stick with my way for now, lol.

OPS is an overrated stat. Hah I like Tuttles chances to be a below average players who doesn't get on base enough to be worth a roster spot. That is fuzzy math if I ever saw it, and seeing I worked in the government, I saw plenty of fuzzy math. The basic fact is that Gerut is on base more than Tuttle. That can not be disputed. Post ergo propter hoc, son.
